This three-panel leaflet was prepared in 2012 for the Junior Japanese Studies Librarian Training Workshop held at the University of Toronto Libraries that year, introducing the antiquarian book district in the Jinbocho (神保町) area in Tokyo.
Some bookstores in Jinbocho also carry new publications besides used books.
Some shops deal with general subject fields, while some are thematic stores.
This book district is conveniently accessible by subway. In December 2007 while participating in a training programme organised by Japan Foundation and the National Diet Library of Japan, I happened to find a hard-to-find 1974 reprint of a 17th century painting scroll in a store in Jinbocho.
Since the price (¥25,000) was reasonable and affordable, I purchased this reprint scroll without second thoughts and presented it to the University of Alberta Libraries as a gift.
I also did the cataloguing.
