Abstract : This paper is to show that a number of plausible arguments supporting the use of Bayly and Ward-s extraction geometry in radio-frequency ion source can be put forward. The Thonemann-Harrison and the Schmidt-Eyrich version of this method have been compared in a series of measurements from the points of view of working parameters and beam characteristics. Current, gas supply rate, mass spectrum and emittance curve have been used to characterize the performance of the sources.
