Abstract : The hyperfine splitting of the Mössbauer spectra of 57Co in ZnS below 4K is attributed to the contribution of the excited levels Γ4 and Γ5 of Fe2+, which are populated out of thermal equilibrium and submitted to a dynamical Jahn-Teller effect. The coherence of this mode1 is examined in the presence of strains or applied magnetic fields.
