Radio Interferometric Ranging RIR is a newly proposed positioning method to meet the needs of wireless sensor network. RIR could gain high ranging accuracy with low sample rate and moderate synchronization accuracy, and therefore, has a great potential of practical deployment. A new explanation to signal- degraded area in Radio Interferometric Positioning System RIPS is proposed. It’s the non-linear effect of MEMS radio RSSI output, rather than the distance ratio, that causes the receiver to get ambiguous sample values. This statement, which overwhelms the current explanation, is validated by practical experiment results, and would make a great impact on the architecture design of RIPS.
