Removal efficiency of copper from EDTA solutions was studied using calcium peroxide and zero- valent iron in this paper. Results showed that calcium peroxide was better than zero-valent iron in removing copper from EDTA solutions. A higher removal efficiency of copper was observed when calcium peroxide and zero-valent iron were simultaneously added into EDTA solutions containing copper, which could result from formation of OH radical due to catalysis of ferrous iron to calcium peroxide. Oxidation of OH radical to EDTA resulted in the release of chelated copper into solutions and subsequently the formation of copper hydroxide. The ratio of calcium peroxide and zero-valent iron was found to have an important effect on the removal efficiency of EDTA chelated copper.
