Abstract: We derive an effective Hamiltonian for highly correlated $t {2g}$ statescentered at the Co sites of Na$ x$CoO$ 2$. The essential ingredients of themodel are an O mediated hopping, a trigonal crystal-field splitting, andon-site effective interactions derived from the exact solution of amulti-orbital model in a CoO$ 6$ cluster, with parameters determinedpreviously. The effective model is solved by dynamical mean-field theoryDMFT. We obtain a Fermi surface FS and electronic dispersion that agreeswell with angle-resolved photoemission spectra ARPES. Our results alsoelucidate the origin of the -sinking-pockets- in different doping regimes.
