Abstract: Surface soliton formation and lattice soliton dynamics at an interfacebetween two inhomogeneous periodic media are studied in terms of an effectiveparticle approach. The global reflection, transmission and trappingcharacteristics are obtained in direct analogy to linear Snell-s laws forhomogeneous media. Interesting dynamics related to soliton power-dependentformation of potential barriers and wells suggest spatial filteringfunctionality of the respective structures.
