The journal had been founded in Spain two years before at the initiative of Ass.
Prof.
Alex García-Mas and Dr.
Joan Riera immediately and unwaveringly backed by Prof.
Jaume Cruz who assumed the role of rst director.
At that moment, Prof.
Cruz was the president of the Spanish Federation of Sport Psychology Associations (F.E.P.D) whose contribution, together with the help of the University of the Balearic Islands and the Sport Department of the Balearic Islands regional government where key in giving either credibility and backup strength in these rst and complicated beginnings, despite the bad odds for such a foolish adventure. Much water owed under the bridge since then and founders, relying on a group of enthusiastic associate editors and editorial team, supported by the Spanish University of Balearic Islands and University Autonòma Barcelona, and thanks to the always inestimable and priceless work of reviewers virtually form all around the world, have been successful in consolidating RPD-JSP as the most important journal in Spanish and Portuguese language and among one of the top 10 sport psychology scope journals worldwide. On 2017, coinciding with journal’s 25th anniversary of the rst issue, the journal starts a new period.
