Technology is an ever increasing priority in education. Yet for the most part, only a minority of teachers have used technology as a supplement to the textbook. This study examines the differences between current and desired levels of knowledge that science teacher education faculty (n=305) have about learning to use computer technologies as instructional tools. The data indicates that only a small percentage of faculty have had any formal training in computer technology. In addition, data suggest that faculty have a desire to know more about computer technology; for instructional tasks, for specific computer applications, on the effects of computers on instruction associated with teaching science, and technology knowledge in general.
