This directory offers institutional and student data collected from proprietary schools certified to operate under sections 173.600-173.619 of the Missouri state statutes. The data covers 85 Missouri-based private career schools and 18 out-of-state regionally accredited degree-granting institutions: data tables present calendar year 1998 information; graphic displays offer highlights of changes in this sector over five years. Data tables and graphics are organized in six sections: Missouri Private Career Schools, 1998; Out-of-State Degree Granting Institutions, 1998; Inventory: Instructional Programs, 1998; Student Preparation, 1998; Participation, 1998; Completion and Employment, 1998; and Resources, 1998. The report notes that in 1998 Missouri private career schools enrolled 49,303 students in 840 instructional programs. The largest student enrollment was in business programs; precision technology programs have the second largest student enrollment. The report also notes that students attending private career schools generally have better educational foundations than they did five years ago; 38 percent report they are pursuing a degree. Data also indicate that private career schools continue to have a high level of success of graduates finding employment in their fields of study. A directory of schools and the 1990 Classification of Instructional Programs is appended. (CH)
