Achievement data from the 2002-2003 school year for public schools with poverty rates of 40% or greater in the state of Indiana are presented as required for State formula grant programs authorized by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). Tables present the number of schools reporting an increase in the number of students performing at the proficient or advanced levels of student achievement in mathematics as measured by State assessments administered in the reading/language arts and in 2002-2003 school year, compared to assessments administered in the 2001-2002 school year. Included are statistics on the number of students enrolled in targeted assistance programs, Even Start Family Literacy Programs, programs for migratory children, programs for children and youth who are neglected, delinquent and at-risk, and statistics on participation in Rural Education Achievement programs (REAP). The report concludes with a table showing the funding amounts transferred under the LEA Transferability authority of section 6123(b) during the 2002-2003 school year.
