A model for environmental literacy in higher education allows development of a curriculum that (1) prepares students for problem solving in authentic contexts; (2) includes the human element in technological solutions; (3) is cross disciplinary; (4) is communication intensive; (5) takes a rational approach to environmental problem solving; and (6) moves students from awareness to action.
