This study explores the economics of trawler operations in the ,Pacific groundfish fishery along the coasts of Washington andBritish Columbia. The fleet is composed of small draggers(mean length 56 feet), based in Puget Sound ports. These vesselsearned an average 3.5 thousand dollars before taxes, per year,in 1968 and 1969. Linear regression analysis has been applied tomeasure the dependence of revenues, costs, and crew earnings onvessel characteristics and annual fishing actiVity. An additionaltrip during . a year wouls.21 add about 3.3. thousand dollars to vesselearnings before taxes. The average crew earnings of $13,312 perman would be increased by 8.5 percent.
