Abstract: This paper presents the Smoothed particle hydrodynamics SPH model toexamine the propagation of a regular and irregular waves. The SPH method is agrid-less Lagrangian approach which is capable of good accuracy in trackinglarge deformations of a free surface. The computations are validated againstthe experimental data and a good agreement is observed. The SPH modelling isshown to provide a promising tool in predicting the transformation of differentwaves.Keywords: numerical methods, regular waves, random wave, physical modelling,SPH, fluid viscosity, particle number.
